Mutiny on “The Bounty”

Are we really rudderless?

If we look at America as a ship on a journey of destiny, through the seas of time, we can see that our ship of bounty is not by any means rudderless. Likewise the tea party movement is not rudderless either. America is a beautiful and complex ship with incredible power and equally incredible grace. Those that man the various stations that make her go are some of the best educated, most innovative, hard working and loyal people the world has ever had. The systems that make her go are the best ever designed for any journey near or far. They have performed superbly from her launching well over two centuries now.

Lately though our ship has began to falter, our engines are overtaxed, our fuel starved by some rather perplexing orders issued by a new officer corps over the last few decades. Our great ship has altered her course and headed off to some very troubled waters. In addition to the problems brewing within her bowels she has become a target designated for destruction by others.

On board her magnificent decks there are opposing factions that have worked well in times past to check and double check the actions of all to make sure that the proper and necessary procedures were adhered to to insure the integrity of the ship so we could safely navigate the stormy seas that compose the worlds history. So successful has this journey been that it is the envy of the entire world, and has spawned both awed admirers and jealous hatred alike.

However those who have ridden and lived their lives aboard have found liberty, freedom, reward, and happiness so long as they have maintained a respect for the integrity of her systems. Others have become disenchanted with the intended functions of her systems and make specious claims they are outdated, and the results of breaching the interlocks on our systems are beginning to have catastrophic results. The operating instructions were corrupted, the training too, the redesigns were constantly slipped in, and those who had redesign in mind seized power from those who wished for the integrity to be maintained. The results are that our engines are working much harder now, our fuel starved, and our boat is overladen and stressed to a breaking point.

Our troubles are many and to compound this hideous situation we are being steered straight into further trouble. Our systems may soon be beyond repair. We may be unable to change course, lose most of or all of our propulsion and lose any ability to institute any independent damage control. The ship is listing badly to the left.

The good news is that traditionally there are many more in the faction that believes in the integrity of our systems than there are who are instituting the redesigns. They may be able to save our ship yet. But how?

The redesigns control everything now. They control the officer promotion system and will use any means possible to keep that power. They hold all the key positions to steer and manage the power of the ship too. They control the procedures and the publications for running the ship and they control the fuel.

The ships communications network is vital to both the re-designers and the traditionalists. The messages are in conflict. The re-designers would have all on board believe that their redesigns are working splendidly and that not only is everything fine, it is much better, and will be very apparent once all the old thinking is gone.

The rest of the crew knows better. They have seen many such ships with the same ill designs wrecked on the rocky coasts of history. The rest of the crew are those that have now joined the tea party movement or will soon.

Our movements rudder is our shared knowledge of the integrity of systems designed superbly to work in harmony by limiting the power of those at the helm to redesign any of them. We are the engines of our ship. Our fuel is our way of life which is based on our God given rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The officers of our ship have hijacked us, they are the pirates that seek to rob us of our choices and still think we will be their engines. They pretend to know of calmer waters and a better way forward, but they do not.

Re taking control of our ship is vital now. Being able to restore the integrity of our systems is also vital but will take much longer to repair. The pirates are guarding against both. They are trying to make their changes irreversible. They have just begun to employ techniques that will drown out any protests to their actions.

We do have a Captain for our ship, and all have sworn to obey this captain. Only those who actually are doing this are worthy of our loyalty and those that usurp our Captain’s authority need to be forever demoted, and never again be entrusted with any delegated power received by the people of our ship. All the pirates must be removed.

Our Captain is the US Constitution, and it is up to us to demand that only this steerage ever be used to guide our ship with Gods blessing and protection.
