Old Fashioned Independence Day in America on Mercer Island

Independence Day celebrations and tea party events going on today.  I took my 12 year old son to the one at Luther Burbank Park on Mercer Island and sponsored by the Conservative Enthusiasts .  Great time, and my son even got into it as our photographer!

LB 4th of July 064

We had  many great speakers, and some great music,  under perfect sunny skies.  The amphitheater faces grassy hillsides with several trees providing shade and made for a very comfortable and relaxing venue for watching the events of the day.  The “Old Fashioned  4th of July” reminded us of the true nature of our country, and our duty to preserve and protect our freedoms and liberty,  on the day that honors the birth of the greatest nation on earth, America.  A bald eagle, symbol of America,  actually appeared out of nowhere and soared low across the crowd an hour into the events, how appropriate his brief appearance was!

Beren intro

4th of July LB at Rally

Steve Beren introduced Keli Carunder or Liberty Belle as we all know her, as the very first person to get together some people and protest the outrageous spending going on under this administration and went on to elaborate on how Keli epitomizes what an activist can be and has been an exemplary example for us. Keli is definitely a person with the courage of her convictions- and is a leader.  I hope to see her take the steps necessary to run for office herself one day.

I was finally able to meet some of the folks I have been communicating with over these past few months and received some great complements about this blog.  This was good to hear as this blog is here to help.

Some of the highlights included fantastic speeches by Keli Carender, Cheryl Haskins, Luke Esser, and Col Pham.

One common thread was this- if you don’t appreciate it,  if you don’t stand on principles, and if you do not fight for your freedom someone will take it away. This Obama administration and his liberal followers are trying their best to do just that!

The music and tributes to our fallen warriors and veterans were special, especially when Sarge Lawrence had the vets come down out of the crowd and sang “I praise the Vet” and “Thanks to Them“.

LB 4th of July 086

There were more great songs and music from Voices of Freedom and Garret Lloyd King

We also heard from conservative candidates like David Castillo and Steve Beren.

I thought about the administrations efforts to paint a picture of all these great decent folks as potential domestic terrorists, I thought just how opposite that is from the truth, these are people that truly love our country and would never apologize for being a part of it!

I had to leave a bit early so I can’t report on the last part of the event,  but I can say I look forward to the next one!

Keli aka Liberty Belle distributed flier’s announcing the call for a simultaneous nationwide protest against the plan to nationalize Health Care to be held @ 9 am on July 17th outside all Senate and Representatives offices.

I added the upcoming event on Tea Party Nation events .

“THOMAS PAINE” THE CENTERPIECE OF JUNE 27TH STATEWIDE CAPITOL “TEA PARTY” PICNIC

These are just a few of the things said about this provocative personality:

“This guy ought to run for President!”

“Just another old motherf***er white racist who doesn’t understand we’re all global now, man”

“I don’t agree with everything he says, but at least he has the guts to say what the majority of Americans are afraid to say in public.”

OLYMPIA, WA – YouTube sensation, actor, author, and historian Bob Basso will perform as the legendary colonial patriot, Thomas Paine, author of the 1776 pamphlet Common Sense, at the State Capitol Tea Party Picnic on June 27 at Heritage Park in Olympia. Basso’s reprise of an award-winning performance has been seen more than a Eight-Million + YouTube hits in the riveting video series “Thomas Paine and the Second American Revolution.”

More than 6,000 people are expected to bring picnics, flags, costumes, and signs of all kinds to Heritage Park at Capitol Lake for an exciting afternoon of inspirational speakers, singers and the opportunity to meet other Washington citizens dedicated to restoring our nation’s founding principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and free markets.  Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes and participants will have the opportunity to “re-sign” the US Constitution.

Basso believes, as did his historical alter ego, that an aroused citizenry rising above politics and demanding a restoration of common sense can’t be stopped. He pounds that theme home relentlessly. “Pressure, pressure, pressure your non-representing representatives to obey the will of the majority or be thrown out on their hind quarters,” he says.

The Olympia Tea Party Picnic is being held in conjunction with other Tea Parties scheduled across the country the week of June 28 – July 4. Tea Parties are sponsored by the Tea Party Patriots, the grassroots organization formed after the first Tea Parties were held in 27 cities across the nation on February 27, 2009 in protest of the sub-prime mortgage disaster, the TARP bank fiasco as well as financial and insurance industry bailouts and the highly controversial $786 billion “stimulus” package.

“Declaring Our Health Care Independence” is the theme of Fourth of July celebrations across the country. “Keeping our right to make our health care decisions without government interference and fighting the imposition of a government-mandated, -run, and -administered health care system is our immediate goal,” says Olympia organizer Ken Morse. “We’re also fighting the passage of the massive “Cap-n-Trade” bill driven by the unproven and controversial global warming theory. If passed, this legislation will impose an energy tax on every aspect American life and endanger any potential financial recovery.”

Other speakers begin at 11:00 AM and include:

  • Floyd G. Brown, an American author, speaker and media commentator. He is president of Excellentia Inc, a consulting company specializing in non-profit organizational strategy, development and marketing. Brown has also worked as a political consultant and conducted opposition research for political campaigns. Brown says “I have a sense of what connects with people like me. We’re not culturally Republicans. We’re not libertarians. We’re not neo-conservatives or former liberals. These are people who couldn’t care less about politics, want to be left alone by government, but if their country calls for them to fight abroad, will. You win elections by cultivating people like me.”
  • Tim Eyman, sponsor of Initiative 1033, a bill to reduce property taxes by limiting the growth of certain state, county and city revenue to annual inflation and population growth (not including voter-approved revenue increases). Revenue collected above the limit would reduce property tax levies. Mr. Eyman is well-known throughout Washington for his fight to lower state taxes and fees on Washington citizens.
  • Alex Glasenapp, Citizens for HJM 4009, a group of citizens taking action with a mission to promote public support and awareness of House Joint Memorial 4009, a bill acknowledging and endorsing the 10th amendment rights of the United States Constitution for the citizens of the great State of Washington. Allen resides in Monroe and is an associate broker in real estate and also co-owner/agent of a family owned and operated independent insurance agency.
  • Sharon Hanek, “Making Your Tea Party Voice Stronger!” Sharon Hanek is a business owner, wife, and mother involved in politics as a private citizen. Over the past six years she has spent many hours in Olympia during legislative session testifying on bills and discussing issues with legislators from both sides of the aisle.  She also travels around the state working with grassroots activists to become more effective in getting their voices heard.
  • Carl Pike on hosting a Tea Party Barbeque; Alex Rion on auditing the Federal Reserve; and activists Ken Morse, Jane Milhans, Keli Carender, & Dan Rehling on networking and moving forward with other Tea Party issues.

The public is welcome to attend this free event at Heritage Park, which is located at 330 Fifth Ave SW in Olympia. Festivities are set to begin at 10:00 am, with live entertainment at approximately 10:30 am. “Thomas Paine” is scheduled to perform at approximately 1 pm. The Tea Party will conclude at 4 pm.

An Open letter to KOMO

We predicted your behavior, and sure enough you acted true to form.

We are sure you have your reasons, and excuses, and frankly- I do not need to hear them at all!

You failed at reporting! That’s not news to us!

It wasn’t like you were not notified in advance, because, of course, you were.

It’s OKAY if you  exercise your prerogative and select the news to report.

What’s so big about 400+ people there as counter protesters, whom are truly the grass roots enthusiastic, and committed group of the two crowds gathered yesterday?

The ‘astroturf’ crowd sure noticed our Funeral for Health Care, they were distracted to the point of frustration.

They, the artificial astroturfers held their mass produced union signs, and almost no American flags- while the real grassroots crowd had very creative homemade signs, and were the ones waving all the American flags!

Your story conveniently omits any mention of our crowd while misrepresenting their crowd as attracting people from all over the Northwest.

Excuse me…they were bussed in as planned! Here is an example from one union the Washington Federation of State Employees.

It did not ‘draw’ participants from all over the NW, it was a staged event to project a public image; that most of the people now want socialized medicine .

We had the counter message that you refused to show.  We do not want a government managing our health care, and think such a step is a one way stride into socialism!

We had plenty of alternative solutions and flyers to hand out to those wanting information!

You see, we were not hiding information, we were providing it…like News organizations used to do!

Please see Patients United Now website for alternatives in the Health Care reform debate!

A new term has emerged from this type of news coverage;  “Obama Compliant News”

it could be a logo of endearment for the left, while a warning logo to us!

Seattle Counter protest ROCKS!

I will never forget the look of shock on their faces as they marched into Westlake and saw us across the street. They couldn’t believe it because we’ve never stood up to them before. It was the most joyous sight I could ever hope to see. Their guest speakers referred to us over and over again, “Don’t listen to those people over there..” “… like those people over there…” “be louder than those people over there…” Please. They made us the stars of their event. Gracias. We interrupted their mojo and everyone could feel it. It was palpable.

UPDATES:
1. Check out the total blackout coverage from KOMO. Seems as though they only covered the start of opposition’s rally at the Pratt Park end and then a little bit of their march. Curious as we sent them press releases about our activities at the Westlake Park end, and they didn’t even bother to send one reporter. If you have pictures or video of the event, please send them with an email or letter to our local news media, T.V. and print!
2. Just a few pics to whet your appetites!
