The Accountability Shortage Eroding America

The Accountability Shortage Eroding America
ROC Commentary

None of us are saints, most of us could do better, and we are all accountable ultimately for what we say or do, whether others may know of that which we do, or not.

“He’s a man of his word” is a saying which indicates someone can be trusted as honest. “A man’s word is his bond” is another version meaning the same thing. Traditionally we used to know a lot more people who said what they meant, and meant what they said, and some of them where even in politics! Nowadays, we cannot even trust most of our American media to be accountable in providing us the unvarnished truth, especially if there could be political fallout to certain parties in reporting the facts.

Integrity and accountability go hand in hand.  “Keeping them honest” has always meant holding people to account for what they say, and do. People with true integrity seem to have developed the self-discipline to live honestly, whether or not others are watching, even when it is easy to act anonymously or when opportunity to surreptitiously abuse trust presents itself.  We used to think of this as maturing. Not so many years ago this described the majority of our American population.

Popular culture, technology, and the prevailing socializing discourse in our time, have created new circumstances and some hiding zones or enclaves that too many people are using to escape consequences for their actions or words. These areas cultivate unlimited excuses or justifications for unaccountable behavior. Our own government uses the unaccountability by some to impose ridiculous measures for forced accountability on all, while ironically fighting any efforts by the people to require accountability from them. Not only that, depending on the political outcome they desire, they blatantly oscillate between both encouraging irresponsible behavior, and/or punishing it. Using the catch-all excuse of “social justice,” our leaders are classifying us, dividing us, marginalizing our individual worth, and controlling us, all because they can depend on the breakdown of accountability they have engineered or some willingly seek.

Those of us concerned for our country see we have an increasing lack of accountability on display from those who should be held to the very highest standards of conduct.  We see that our media has been corrupted, and are no longer diligent in their roles as guards for the public assigned to watch for signs of the abuse of power.  We also see that too many of our fellow citizens have adopted a mob mentality, and seem to want to be free of any personal accountability. Whether or not we are doing it to ourselves, or having it done to us, our standards for personable accountability are being lowered.

America cannot afford to allow this to continue and still expect to remain free.

We need people of integrity, and people who stick by their principles in our leadership positions.

Everybody is not suited for leadership.  We see the consequences of allowing those without experience, ability, or integrity to make important decisions that affect far more people than themselves. There is a basic truth in the “Peter Principle,” where eventually a person will be promoted to a level of incompetence, but seems especially true with those who lack integrity, honesty, and personal accountability in their lives.

Our institutions built on principles, which formerly created better conditions for people to take their responsibilities to be “men (and women) of their word,” seriously, have been under attack for decades by those seeking more power for themselves and less influence or power from those entities.

Those foundational institutions that reinforce the values we seek from a responsible citizenry begin with the basic family structure, our schools, our churches and our community groups. One aspect that is common about these associations is that they are voluntary.  Another was that they were originally relatively free of government interference, especially from afar. We can no longer claim this trait, just look at our schools now. These traditional relationships were also largely local, and we knew the members, and knew who best to trust among them.

Even as little as a decade ago, it is highly unlikely that a man with the highly questionable and little known background such as Barack Obama had could have been elected as president. The lack of accountability for his past associations and the lack of relevant experience both would have made him unelectable. But that is immaterial now since he was elected.  What is important is that he has now shown that he is not “a man of his word.”  He lies frequently and seemingly very easily, he retreats from accountability or responsibility for his own actions, and blames others or makes excuses, and he has shown little in promoting America or our values. The problems America faces as a nation are worsening, not improving, under his leadership.

An institution which has remained an island for real accountability is our military. The discipline and integrity of the professional men and women in our military have not suffered the same social values slippage the rest of society has, though it seems to be a new target for change by the elitists lately. Our hopes for finding true leaders with demonstrated and known records for achievement and accountability is enhanced with groups like Combat Vets for Congress PAC. Their motto, “Embedded Integrity.” They endorse people like Rep. (Lt. Col.) Allen West.

The previously mentioned traditional community institutions (those whom have managed to resist the culture of corruption in our society) is another great place to look for our needed leaders, and we should encourage those we identify as principled and trustworthy to run for office at all levels.

Yet, it also seems we all might need to take a fresh look at our own personal actions or behaviors in life.  Are we ourselves contributing or participating in the erosion of our society?  Are we staying silent when we should speak up, or putting minimum effort into fighting for what we believe in? Are we making excuses too? If you believe for example that more people need to get involved in your group, do you have a goal to attract a certain number each week or month?  Is there a plan in place for achieving your goal?  Are you truly giving it your best effort?  Isn’t this part of being accountable also?

The lack of accountability is responsible for most of our issues faced by the country; from illegal immigration, to the mortgage market fiasco, to the fight over health care costs, and in just plain dishonest corruption by those holding office.  Our leaders, and we ourselves, better wake up soon and demand a renewed, higher standard of accountability!

Just in case this commentary does not convey the importance of accountability, please carve out a period of time to watch the wisdom found in the MRC-TV video (about an hour) A Call to Accountability.

“Positive” Government Rights De-constituting America

Reprinted from the original post at http://forums.traditionalamericanmovement.com

Thanks to decades of progressive education, media propaganda, and politicians from both parties that have ignored their oaths to uphold our US Constitution, we may now say we are nearly de-constituted as a country that once was based on individual freedom and our property rights, in a society which both revered and observed the rule of law.

Preamble of the De-constituted
We the Central Authority of the Subservient States, in Order to form Enduring Powers, establish arbitrary Justice, insure domestic Obedience, provide for the Social Compact, promote the Standardized Consensus Agenda, and to secure and redistribute the Property of the Demos, do command, and so order, this Manifesto as Supreme authority over the subjects of the Socialist States of America from this time forward.

Far fetched? Which part is not already true?

Our federal government, populated and dominated by socialist ideologies, is dictating what the states may or may not do, as well as us citizens, as if we were subjects commanded to obey, instead of the source of our elected representatives authority. This dictating attitude of office holders is heard in their words, and seen through their actions.

The Rule of Law, along with the elements that are required for true justice, have been usurped by the rule of men. The laws have grown so numerous, and so complex as to not be known even generally, much less in any specifics by most of the people. Increasingly we see these laws are applied unequally, to politically favored groups for either exemption or benefit, and to dis-favored groups as punishments and inhibitors of freedom. Not only is the individual left largely unprotected now in favor of the arbitrary “greater good” of society, new laws are damning to the individual… and his rights. Success of the productive is often met by confiscation, overbearing regulation, and even more laws of men which are meant mainly to siphon off a maximum value for the longest time possible, and redistribute those proceeds to ensure political power for themselves. Judicial review is no longer conducted by impartial or independent judges.

Irresponsible social promises have been made now for generations, by those willing to promise anything, without being held responsible for their false advertising, which in turn has made the notion of a ‘social compact’ between the government and the people seem almost natural for people to expect, and many feel this promised arrangement is somehow superior to the idea of true self sufficiency and the liberty to pursue ones own happiness. Evidently these people have never thought it through far enough to realize that one cannot both retain responsibility for determining one’s own path, and simultaneously enjoy no responsibilities for their own welfare.

If we are to retain our ability to demand our consent for a system of self-government, as a representative Republic, we must elect those that understand the elements of good law to be our lawmakers. Otherwise we end up with the rule of men, uncertainty, decline, and worst of all, the end of our liberty.

Our Founders understood what the Rule of Law consists of. Our elected officials need to remember these elements too. The rule of law must be known (knowable) in general to all, have a certainty (a law we count on to last without changing, and have a sound legal framework. It must be applied with equality, with an absence of any government discretionary power which always threatens the Rule of Law. It must have impartial independent judicial review. It must acknowledge its authority is only derived by protecting our individual rights.

The recent Obamacare law is a prime example of what happens when the Rule of Law has been eviscerated and usurped by the arbitrary rule of men. It is an unprecedented massive, unknowable law that was both rushed and rammed through Congress by a majority against the will of the people, which tramples on individual rights, is already undergoing numerous changes, will generate volumes of new rules, is creating uncertainty, is full of both discretionary powers by government and exemptions for government and others of favored status, and much of it is not subjected to any independent judicial review or even congressional review. Life itself will be put at risk by its provisions, which do include a “death panel” based on costs of services.

So we can see that the fictitious Preamble of the De-constituted above is not far fetched at all. This is however how those in power now exercise their duties. This is the power and purpose they are actively seeking by any means possible, and they likely hope to pronounce a similar manifesto of control when they know that they have crushed any resistance to them. They have massively abused their power to the point of controlling us, by ignoring good law, constitutional constraints to limit power, the sovereignty of the individual, and substituting arbitrary rules of their own making. All the positive good born of freedom which our fellow citizens, current and past, have built upon to grow this society into the greatest country, is now in jeopardy of being lost forever unless we end this rogue regime of post constitutionalists and any like it.

It is not too late though, unless of course, We the People ignore what Edmond Burke stated;

“All that is necessary for evil to triumph is that good men (and women) do nothing”

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Hooray! A Happy Health Care Highway!

Everyone should just be jumping for joy!  Health care is now a right in America!

How this will work is easily illustrated.

See your health care is like your vehicle. You are a thing just like your vehicle too!

Your vehicle was in pretty bad shape according to just about everyone, though it is curious how it still seemed to be working okay for you up until now.

The great news is- do we ever have a deal for you!

We are going to repair your vehicle for free!

Here is how the deal works, we will fix your vehicle and everyone else’s vehicle too!

Though it is free we will start taking payments from you over the next four years to pay for the repairs.

By then we will have enough money to start everyone’s repairs all at once!

So you just pay for four years first- then we start!  After that we give you back your vehicle to use the way we let you.

The paycheck deductions will continue of course, but only for the remainder of your life… for you.

There will be a couple of new rules in exchange for us fixing your vehicle (for free) of course.

First of all; you and nearly everyone else, will get to go anywhere you want on the new highway we reserved just for you… and everyone else.  There are only entry ramps on this highway- and no exit ramps at all! So don’t worry about getting lost you will be on the same highway as nearly everyone else.

Of course myself, and a few of my friends have to use our own roads that barely have anyone on them, and never get near your new highway.  We actually have on ramps and exits in case we need them, but I digress.

Anyways, your new vehicle will be working just fine and it will take you to the places we want you to go!

It’s free by the way, except for the fees and other deductions of course.

Now should your vehicle start to cause any unforeseen problems we will ask you to park your vehicle where we tell you, for as long as we need to have your vehicle parked! All you will have to do is just wait-it’s  so easy!

Sadly, we know that at some point your(and you) vehicle will have outlived its useful life.  This might clog up your new highway for others on it and we will probably ask you to retire that vehicle from further use if we see signs this may be happening.  People will help you make the choice we already decided for you at that point.

Some newer vehicles might overload the highway too and since traffic will only move at an imperceptible crawl to begin with, we won’t need too many new vehicles crawling in to the traffic.  If we can encourage people not to keep them in the first place that would be great- and we will even pay to ensure they are destroyed before they become a “burden.”

We are doing all of this for you, because it is long overdue, you deserve it and this highway should have been a right long ago, and we care about you!

Oh by the way all previous roads will be destroyed, and you will have no other choices but your new health care highway, if you do not like it- oh well- we made it the new law!

Happy Motoring!

Congress and the President of the United States

Health Reform: Debate over “How?”

The Health Care reform debate is shaping up to be a contentious one, again.  On one side you have the Obama administration and his push to bring some form of a socialized national health care,  on the other you have the people that believe free enterprise will provide needed reforms if given a chance to do so.

While Washington fights over philosophies we take  a look at the local debate.

The debate over whether or not reform is even needed seems to be stipulated…it is widely agreed upon  reforms are needed,  due to the increasingly high cost of care and also many other factors.

So once again the real debate is over the “how”  to achieve reform that works.

Nearly half of the industry is already controlled by government, and it is certainly not the efficient half of the system  of the two!

Personally, I am on the side of  vigorous “free market competition“, and some common sense tort reforms to allow doctors some protection against the constant lawsuit threat due to astronomical awards given (even in settling baseless claims) for malpractice.

Of course the “entitlement side” that Obama represents is adamantly opposed to both these concepts.

The ever present “fairness” label is being applied once again as the left tries to assert that equal care for one and all is “a right“,  which of course it isn’t!

A fellow tea party member of several local and national groups,  Tawnya recently brought to my attention a good debate being waged in the “letters to the editor” pages of the Monroe Monitor over the last couple of weeks.

Obama is using his alliance with a  compliant media to help push his vision for us on this debate-his vision is clear-he wants national government control.

Meanwhile the regular folks are fighting back, as they realize if they don’t nobody else will, and this is too important to the welfare and well-being of ourselves and families!

We want our freedom, and individual control over our decisions, especially our health!

Two of my children were delivered by a doctor that no longer delivers babies after government controls at the state level drove out the insurance companies and drove up malpractice insurance rates.  Many of those government control decisions had to be altered and reversed,  insurance “reform” had created a crisis–the  shortage of OB/GYN doctors!

Tawnya noticed how the media was using “heart touching stories” to promote Obamas vision, she had one of her own,  so when a similar story appeared in her local paper she wrote in response.  I think the editor of this paper is getting slammed with letters at this pont, but Tawnya was still able to get  her letter in response published.  Tawnya’s  story is as heart touching as the original with a much different perspective on a similar story.

Reading the various responses to the editor is actually very educational, and one thing is very clear to me.  There is no consensus, and this debate is very far from over!

Original article (pdf) and responses (pdf)- here Tawnya’s  letter here and  here

They seemed to get away with the “debate is over” and “there is consensus” about the global warming hoax but that will not happen with the health care reform debate- if we step up and be heard, like Tawnya has done!

Excerpt from Tawnya’s letter–

I too have had a friend with cancer fly from Alaska to Seattle to have treatments. I’ve had my heart break watching what she was going through as she struggles to survive and raise her little girl on her own.  Unfortunately she could not afford to make many trips from Alaska. My friend ended up having to swallow her pride, which was not an easy thing to do, and ask for assistance. It is what she chose to do to survive. I don’t feel the need to give a blow by blow of her daily life and struggles to pull at your heartstrings to sway your opinion, but I would like to give some food for thought. I’m sure we all have stories that would touch each other on an emotional level that we could pass back and forth for days.  It all comes down to individual choice.  The one thing in this world that is truly mine is my body.  My body, My choice, I would like to keep it that way. One size doesn’t fit all. I don’t want rationed healthcare where government dictates what medical service I can or can’t have. That should be left between my doctor and me.

When Will President Obama Make the Case for Freedom?

Our First President

Our First President-George Washington

It is important, likewise, that the habits of thinking in a free country should inspire caution in those entrusted with its administration, to confine themselves within their respective constitutional spheres, avoiding in the exercise of the powers of one department to encroach upon another. The spirit of encroachment tends to consolidate the powers of all the departments in one, and thus to create, whatever the form of government, a real despotism. A just estimate of that love of power, and proneness to abuse it, which predominates in the human heart, is sufficient to satisfy us of the truth of this position.

Washington’s Farewell Address of 1796

The case for freedom is America.

Millions seek to come here for that reason alone!

Appreciative Americans realize that and thank God that they were fortunate enough to be either born here, or become a citizen here.

Millions more around the world live without freedom, but hope to experience it someday.

It does not take a whole lot of education to understand that we are blessed, while others are not so fortunate.

Obama is exploiting the difference for his own political purposes.

Past presidents have shown the world what freedom  offers, and encouraged people from around the globe to not only consider freedom, but to strive for it.

America is not a selfish nation.  We have never felt that freedom and liberty was solely our domain to jealously guard without sharing.

So why now is our president acting as if that is the case?  Why does he travel  to places devoid of any true freedom- and state we are standing on common ground?

Just when exactly is he going to start to speak the truth about the way things really are?

People that live under freedom live the best, period.  They have the most, need the least as far as basic survival and in quality of life.

People that live under powerful thugs or where an elite political class controls everything have the least, and need the most.

Our freedom grew out of our economic freedom, that is how we became the superpower we are compared to other nations. That superpower status does not just refer to military might, it applies across the categories of human endeavors.

Innovation, generosity, justice, compassion, and economic might.

Our freedom enabled us to become who we are.  We are free to speak, to worship, to own property and to have a representative government.

Our freedom has created such a powerful momentum that we have been propelled along by this even as many have worked tirelessly against our rights and freedom.

Now though, all those chips and cracks against our principles, by so many, for so long, are really taking a toll on our Charters of Freedom, the Declaration of Independence, and the U.S. Constitution.

I do not see  or hear our president making the case for freedom at all.

In fact, I am not alone in believing,  that the president has actually been making the case against freedom everywhere he goes,  with both words and deeds.

We can easily find apologists and defenders alike that insist that we, whom cherish our freedom, have judged the president all wrong.

They call us “extremists” as they work feverishly to deny all religious worship as the work of “zealots” if it does not conform to their worship of the State.

They call us “fringed elements” while they work ingeniously to disguise their attempts to stifle and suppress speech that does not conform to their views.

As they seize control over private industries right and left, they claim free enterprise is the evil in our country.

They openly admit to plans to further deprive of us our freedoms and how they will spend a lot more money we do not have, to make energy unavailable for use, to punish those with special sentences for daring to think for themselves about social issues, and to openly flood our society with workers they know will vote for entitlements over freedom.

Not only is our free economic system being dismantled without regard to freedom, our personal freedom is also under attack.

Our Constitution guarantees the right to own and bear arms an essential right in a free society, yet Obama has not been straight with America, and does seek to disarm us.

Nothing can be more personal than seeking and having control over your own health care decisions, and also maintaining your privacy as an individual, so why than is Obama pushing so hard to to seize these personal rights and personal freedoms away too?

How can society be free if they have no say in their lives?

I do not know exactly why our media threw in so completely with the anti-freedom, pro-control left.  It is bad for us all (that love freedom) that they have chosen this.

Most of us can appreciate and understand the special role and rights afforded a free press by our Founding Fathers.  They recognized that our freedom would come under attack, they saw the press as having a vital role in warning of an overreaching and abusive government.

Few spectacles are more chilling these days than to watch as our press is virtually silent during press conferences with the President, or even his press Secretary, on issues across the board that are having long term impacts to Americans freedoms.

Some of the media remarks are so absurd and beyond belief in unadulterated adulation for a president that has barely taken office, yet has done considerable damage to Americas image and to freedoms image as well thus far, that you find yourself double checking the sources to make sure they are true!

I have come to the conclusion that this president has no intention of making the case for freedom, this president intends to make a case of government control over freedom, and the press has decided to aid and abet him in that effort.

So I would make this case.  We are not the “extremists” here. We who love freedom, we love liberty and we want our children and grandchildren to also have freedom and liberty are not any of the names or labels used to distort what we stand for.

We are doing what so many others have done throughout our great history.  We are following tradition, celebrating freedom,  and always doing our part to both preserve and protect it.

We have lost so many good men and women fighting for our country.  They vowed to protect and preserve our Constitution, the doctrine of freedom,  from all enemies foreign and domestic.

When will President Obama make the case for freedom?

I do not believe he ever will, or ever wanted to.

So everyday we must do it for ourselves!
